Divine Manipuri Raas Leela Art by Jimmy Thiyam After my last blog on Ema Keithel, I am proud to present another young artist from young artist Jimmy Thiyam (BFA 7th Semester, Imphal Art College). This painting captures the soul of Manipur - The Maha Raas Leela. What you see in the painting: The Raas dancers in their iconic blue Potloi and golden border, heads covered with white transparent Samkok, dancing in devotion. In the background, you can see the twin golden domes of Shree Shree Govindajee Temple, Imphal — fading in blue mist, giving a dream-like spiritual effect. Jimmy used pointillism (thousands of small dots) technique which makes the costumes shine like stars. This dance was created by Maharaja Bhagyachandra (Karta) in 1779 after he had a divine vision of Lord Krishna. It is one of the Classical Dances of India and UNESCO recognized intangible heritage.Art Details: Artist: Jimmy Thiyam Theme: Manipuri Maha Raas Leela Technique: Acrylic on Canvas with Pointillism dots Size: (Ask...
