Disaster and Need for Prepardness

A massive flood on Wednesday swept through Nepal's northern Rasuwa district near the Tibet border, leaving behind a trail of destruction and loss. The Bhote Koshi river, which originates in Tibet and flows through Nepal before joining the Trishuli river system, overflowed and caused widespread damage to homes, vehicles, bridges and infrastructure.

According to Qianggong Zhang, head of climate and environmental risks at the Kathmandu-based International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development, an ice-rock avalanche in the Lhende Khola river on the Nepali side may have triggered the disaster. However, the exact cause of the avalanche remains unconfirmed. Zhang also cautioned that despite the current situation being under control, the threat could still persist with a blockage still lodged upstream along the Nepal-China border.
