Title: Manipur and Northeast: From Corner to Centre of India

Over the years, many people said Northeast is far from India’s capital city but  everything will be changing soon in the near future. Northeast will no longer be the last corner of India — it will be the first door of India to Asia.

Manipur and Northeast in Bharat

1. Manipur Will Be India's Gateway to Asia

The trilateral highway from Moreh in Manipur to Thailand is likely to be functioning in the near future. Our indigenous products — black rice (Chahao), bamboo, handloom, handicraft— will be able to find its export destination in countries like Bangkok and Singapore. Imphal Airport will be functional as international airport within few years. Tourists from the Southeast Asia will be attracted by tourist hotspots like Loktak Lake and Sangai deer.

2. Digital Power in Our Hills

Today, even a student in a small village in hill districts  uses Google Pay and YouTube. In every village in Manipur and neighbouring States like Nagaland, Assam and Mizoram including Tripura will be able to get accessed to faster internet services in the near future.

A girl from the hill districts of Manipur may be able to teach various subjects online and earn income. For example, a boy from Tamenglong can sell his orange on Amazon. A mother from Kakching can sell her handloom on Instagram.

We don't need to go to other metro cities for a job. The job will come to our phone.

3. Why The World Will Love Manipur?

Only three words — Sports, Culture, Heritage, Organic.

Sports — In every Olympics, there is a Manipur player. In future, there will be more gold medallists in Olympics from Manipur.

Culture — Our Manipuri dance, our Lai Haraoba, our music — no one can copy it.

Heritage: Manipur has got a rich cultural heritage. Invaluable goods including golds were unearthed in Manipur. Metal coins were discovered.

Organic — The world wants clean food. We have the best. Black rice, King Chilli, Bamboo shoot, Orange. All are natural and organic from birth.

4. Eight Sisters, One Dream

Tripura has rubber and gas potential. Assam has vast resources for tea. Mizoram has adequate bamboo resources. Nagaland has rich culture. Arunachal has bountiful nature. Manipur is known for its sports and art.

If eight sisters work together and extend cooperation among its states, Northeast will be the richest place in India for tourism and green business in the near future.

5. My Request to Students and young generation:

If you are a student reading this blog, please do only three things:

1. Learn one new skill — video editing, coding, or spoken English.

2. Love your own language and culture.

3. Keep your village clean and plant one tree.

The future of Manipur is not in other metro cities. The future is in our hands.

Conducting a PhD viva as an external examiner from Manipur for a student in Hyderabad without electricity, on mobile data and with two lamps, is unacceptable. This is negligence towards education and shows complete apathy to students and academicians. If you cannot provide stable and dignified power, how will digital education succeed? Education cannot run on emergency lamps and mobile data. Power is not free — we pay for it.
